Hi, I'm a college prof, I use SQL Server heavily in my courses (data management and business intelligence)
This semester the College migrated from 2008 R2 to 2012 in all our labs. I had in my computer 2008 R2 and could not migrate immediately, so I decided to install a SQL Server 2012 (named) instance (64 bits Enterprise Ed) keeping 2008 R2 as well.
The setup worked well and I had both engines running
Now, with more time in my hands, I proceeded to remove 2008 R2, I also removed 2012 and try to reinstall it to have it as a default instance (to have identical install to what my students have, no named instance)
When trying to reinstall 2012, I ran into issues, similar to the one reported by AfzalQ on Oct 24th : The installation threw 3 error msgs, with each error msg stating that it could not write to class registry and requesting to check
that I had sufficient access to that key (3 different keys). The installation rolled back on specific components after each error, and proceeded. At the end I was left with a number of components that failed to install
The error msg in each of the instances was "Could not write value Class to key \Software\Classes\CLSID\{some-guid-here}\InprocServer32\11.0.0.0. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel"
Please note that I installed in in exactly the same way I did the first time around. The only difference is that I uninstall SQL Server 2012 and tried to install it again. the second time it just did not work.
The full error log is listed below. Any help will be appreciated, as I'm stuck with this
