Can't upgeane SQL Server 2014 Developer to SQL Server 2016 Developer

$

(Let’s see if it all goes through this time)

According to this page (https://msdn.microsoft.com/library/ms143393), full upgrade from is supported.

However, I was only able to upgradeShare Features andRedistributable Features. I was never offered the option to upgrade mySQL Server 2014 Developer instance.

Even though the UI didn't match the instructions:

As can be seen, there's no Upgrade from SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 R2, SQL Server 2012, or SQL Server 2014, onlyUpgrade from a previous version of SQL Server.

I tried it anyway but nothing:

I already had SQL Server Management Studio 2016 installed.

Has anyone been able to do this?

SQL Server 2016 Setup Error (R Component)

Hi All,
During SQL Server 2016 Dev Installation I've probably had WiFi glitch or something and it failed to download some mysterious  cab files for R component. As a result shell thrown error (pointing to log .. couldn't download SRS_8.0.3.0_1033.cab file) .. next OK .. next Setup Completes (Both: R InDataBase and R Client marked red as failed, the rest is ok {SSAS/DB/SSAS/SSIS}).
Tried to ReRun Setup {both R elements marked as installed}. Now I can't remove R components {CheckBox shaded} and R won't work (because install failed). :\
Any advice on how to fix R install without reinstalling instance or even OS? Thanks.
{ grrr.. Just trying to be polite about this new MSft installation model where lots gets downloaded, no SSMS etc.., can't believe it's released with so many fails}

MS SQL Server Management Studio 2014 to manage 2008 R2 database

Hello,

I'm using MS SQL Svr Mgmt Studio 2008 R2 to create/modify tables, stored procs, etc (i'm a developer, not a DB Admin). I currently have some 2008 R2 databases i work with, and have to start working on some new 2014 databases. I'd prefer to have just one version of SSMS installed in my PC if possible...

Q1> Can I have SSMS 2014 installed, and get rid of SSMS 2008 R2, and still manage the 2008 R2 databases with SSMS 2014?

Q2> Can the install of SSMS 2014 take care of removing SSMS 2008 R2?

Thank you

Best regards,

Richard

SQL Server 2014 multiple licensed copies

We are a small shop. I have 1 VM to install SQL Server 2014. However, I am required to have a licensed copy for every contract we have. This means I can't install the databases into 1 copy. Contract A requires its own licensed copy and instance; Contract B requires its own licensed copy and instance.  Is it possible to install SQL Server 2014 in this fashion?

SQL tuning DTA issue

We currently have an issue with the SQL tuning advisor where is crashes with a DTA error attached.  I am running this across 3 databases with no more than 40 Gig.  If I restart the MS SQL service the tuning will work again (but obviously this defeats the tuning benefit) Attached are the errors we get.  Effectively we just bombs out whilst calculating the performance improvement.

SQL Server 2008 error: Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation, in Windows 10 x64

$

I was trying installing SQL Server 2008 in Windows 10 x64 (fully updated) version:1511 OS build:10586.318

Setup fails with the error "Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation".

I Googled and searched for the possible solutions of this error and followed n referred to a thread also, which was for Windows 2008 R2.

Now i did almost everything said there in that thread.

steps i did -

1)- i did a complete fresh re-install of my windows 10 x64 and updated it. I am the Admin and it's fresh new Admin account.

DESKTOP-V0OKKQV\BEAST (Computer Name\User name). computer name was assigned by windows 10 itself while during installation and username i gave when it asked for. so i didn't change the computer name , i left it it's like by default it chose for itself.

2)- i enabled on the .NET Framework 3.5(includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)

3)- .NET Framework  4.6 Advanced series already enabled on

4)- i copied the SQL Server setup folder "Microsoft Sql Server 2008" to the C:\Users\BEAST folder.

5)- Checked for permissions to "Microsoft Sql Server 2008" folder , gave Full permissions everywhere.Unchecked Read-Only thing too.

6)- i gave Full Control on these reg key to Administrator, current user and everywhere i could

'HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server' &

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\WMI\security

7)- Then i did these slipstream steps also using Command Prompt (as Adminstrator)

Downloaded the x64 package of SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 4

Extracted the service pack to C:\SP1 folder by running the following command:
SQLServer2008SP4-KB2979596-x64-ENU.exe /x:C:\SP1

installed the setup support files:
C:\SP1\x64\setup\1033\sqlsupport.msi

Ran the Setup.exe file from the SQL Server 2008 folder by specifying the /PCUSource parameter.

Navigating to the the directory using cd for C:\Users\BEAST\Microsoft Sql Server 2008

then

setup.exe /PCUSource=C:\SP1

8)- Installation of SQL Server 2008 begins.

all 7 tests and 10 rules of sql servere passed , except Windows Firewall warning only

which i skipped as i am not installing for Remote purpose , only Local system.

9)- Then installation begins as usual and errors "Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation" come in end.

Please Help! to solve this error.

2008 SSMS and SSRS remain on server after upgrade to 2012.

Hi,

I recently upgraded SQL Server 2008 R2 to 2012. Report Server Configuration Manager and the 2008 version of SSMS are still on my server. 2012 versions of each now exist on the server too. The 2008 Reporting Services configuration Manager doesn't open and the 2008 SSMS opens but some of the features don't work as they should. What should I do to remove these without interfering with the 2012 versions of each? Thanks

SQL 2016 RTM Install reboots during the install and hoses the installation

I just attempted installing SQL 2016 RTM and the install rebooted the server. After the reboot SQL of course is not working at all due to the install not completing; so, it's hosed up.  It appears that msiexec requested a restart due to SSIS (see below).  Has anyone had this issue?  This is a new Win 2012-R2 VM and a new SQL 2016 install.

From the Win App Error Log:

Windows Installer requires a system restart. Product Name: SQL Server 2016 Integration Services. Product Version: 13.0.1601.5. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation. Type of System Restart: 1. Reason for Restart: 1.

I am trying to install SQL Server 2016 enterprise version on Windows 2012 R2. When I click New SQL Server installation I am getting exception  "SQL Server setup has encountered the following error: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation"

Looking at the log file I do see this error, However when I searched for this DLL I do see it exists in one of the folder in the installation directory.

Unable to load DLL 'sqlmu.dll': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E)

When we manually install the SQL 2014 SP1, everything looks good and i'm seeing the version as ''12.0.4100.1" . But at the same time when I install the same package (setup) using the below command line, it is just installing the SQL 2014 NOT getting the SP1 - the version is showing as "12.0.2000.8"

<E:\SQL2014SP1\setup.exe>" /ACTION= "Install" /ConfigurationFile="C:\Build\MyInstanceConfig.INI"

Appreciate all the help and advise. Thanks in advance

Hello,

At a client, I have installed SQL 2016 Developer in a non Prod enivronment and Enterprise 2016 in Prod environment.

The plan is to use non Prod environment for 3 months and then migrate to Prod...

Prod will not be used at all until migration time.

So my question is, when does the customer actually begin paying for Prod ?  From time of install ? or first usage ? how does that work ?

Should Prod Server be shutdown until used ? or should i de-install until its needed ?

thanks

Problem installing SQL Server 2012 (Windows 7 64 bit)

Hi everybody,

I have SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 installed and VS 2010 SP1 installed (Ultimate edition of VS). I tried to install SQL Server 2012. I had failures with the following:

It seems it's looking for installation file of VS 2010 Ultimate. My question is - why does it looking for that file during installation of SQL Server 2012 and what should I do if I can not find it? I searched my C drive for that file using Agent Ransack and it didn't find it. I don't remember the exact details of how did I install the VS 2010. I found SP1 files for VS 2010 saved. What should I do now? Thanks in advance.

This is what I have installed for VS Ultimate 2010. I also searched my Downloads folder and I could not find anything that looks like VS install. I really don't remember where I could have saved it (if I did). I don't have DVD media as I used MSDN Ultimate Subscription (which now has expired already) to install VS 2010.

Unable to install KB2977325

I am unable to install the new security updates for SQL Server 2012 SP1 (KB2977325) and SQL Server 2008 SP3 (KB2988321). When installing via Windows Update, both fail with code 84C4000B. Tried downloading the KB2977325 installer (SQLServer2012-KB2977325-x64.exe), it gets stuck at:

"Instance ...: Updating '...' (1 of 2): MsiTimingAction

Rebooting does not help.

Windows Update tried installing these since 8/17 on a daily basis, with no success.

Running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1, 64 bit.

Is there a resolution to this? Thanks,

David.
